Partial Sun - Tom Snarsky

Partial Sun

Like medium antirrhinum, flourishing

in the double bind of not enough light

and limited time in the rain—a head-

stone under a tree, or a milestone

they died too young to reach. A reason

for pause. A cause for concern. Burns

too bloody to hide, that hurt too much

to keep the different stories straight.

The rate of decay, its indifferent rays,

the quiet way she cradled their head

with her knees as they sat on the floor

watching the air move in the room

and cover the flowers / with hesitance
